The Preston baseball team split a home doubleheader with Canyon Ridge and then lost a road game to Sugar-Salem. The Indians host Pocatello for a doubleheader on senior night at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24. They travel to Pocatello on Thursday, April 25 at 4 p.m. and finish the season at Declo on Tuesday, April 30 at 4 p.m.
Sugar-Salem scored first on April 19, with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Preston answered in the top of the fourth to tie it 1-1 but the Diggers regained the lead in the bottom of the inning with one run and plated three more in the bottom of the fifth. Preston picked up two more in the top of the seventh but finished with a 3-5 loss.
Connor Thomson and Jaxon Merrill both doubled. Merrill and Janson Hollingsworth recorded one RBI each.
Austin Gleed struck out four in 4.2 innings of work and Eli Hammons who relieved him, struck out three.
The Indians tied visiting Canyon Ridge 1-1 in the bottom of the first inning but the Riverhawks took the lead with three in the top of the third and one more in the top of the fifth. Preston plated one more in the bottom of the sixth and finished with a 2-5 loss.
Gleed doubled and Zabe Mendoza had an RBI.
Preston jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning of the nightcap. Canyon Ridge cut the deficit to three in the top of the third but the Indians plated six in the bottom of the inning and two more in the bottom of the fourth for a 14-3 victory over the Riverhawks in five innings.
Thomson and Caide Oxborrow doubled with Thomson adding two RBI’s and Oxborrow three. Hammons also had three RBI’s and Merrill and Hollingsworth two each. Gleed and Medoza recorded one RBI each.
